During each session, 5.11 Tactical and FBINAA treat everyone to a
steak dinner with all the fixings. For the readers who may not know what 5.11
Tactical is, here is a brief summary courtesy of wikipedia. 5.11 Tactical
is a U.S. clothing company specializing in uniforms and tactical clothing for
military, law enforcement and public safety. The company is based in
Modesto, California. 5.11 started as a clothing line created by mountain
climber, Royal Robbins. He owned a boot and clothing company and started
making pants by the name "5.11" that has a trademarked tactical strap
and slash pocket in 1968. The name 5.11 comes from the highest rock
climbing difficulty level that was listed in Yosemite Decimal System at
Yosemite National Park.
In 1999, Robbins sold 51% of his company
to Dan Costa, who noticed 5.11 Tactical pants were becoming popular at the FBI
Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Partnering with the FBI in 2003, the newly
formed 5.11 Tactical line began. Today, all FBI new agents and FBI
National Academy student’s uniforms are 5.11. Most Law Enforcement folks
reading this blog probably own several 5.11 items if not wear one every day for
a duty uniform.
So, in keeping with the long standing
relationship 5.11 has with the FBI and the FBINAA, a steak dinner is provided
for each session of the FBI National Academy. I was told by those who
attended before me that this would be one of the best events and best meals I
would have, they were spot on! Each steak was at least 1lb, with potatoes, veggies,
rice and bread. Not to mention the open bar with beer and wine. A
great event with great partners from 5.11 and FBINAA. The CEO of 5.11,
Tom Davin and the President of the FBINAA Barry Thomas welcomed 263 and
presented some very nice 5.11 bags to each of us. This was another opportunity for our entire session to get to know each other better and build those professional relationships that will last beyond NA. A great night!
